Claw elevators are ideal to extract molars in the mandible after separation of the root.

The bend of the working ends, combined with the shortened tips, allows a gentle lifting of the opposite root without contact with the neighboring crown. 

The special claw elevators are ideal to luxate roots if apical access is possible from the neighboring alveolus, e.g. if a root has already been removed and if the empty alveolus can be used as access. It is recommended first to remove the root which is bent less.
